Czech Police Arrest 47 in Largest-Ever Football Corruption Crackdown; Europol and Interpol Involved
Czech police detained 47 individuals in a massive anti-corruption operation targeting match-fixing and illegal betting across Czech football, from the top Chance Liga down to youth competitions. The Football Association called it the most extensive operation in Czech football history. Czech-language outlets iSport and Denik identified referees Miroslav Zelinka, Jan Petrik, Jan Vsetecka, and Simon Vejtasa as suspects. The case involves connections to Asian organized crime syndicates profiting from fixed match betting. Karvina is the only top-division club implicated, with the club's owner and the mayor of Karvina, Jan Wolf, among those detained. FACR chairman David Trunda stated the association itself initiated the investigation. Europol, Interpol, and UEFA's Anti-Match-Fixing Unit are collaborating on the three-year probe.
