ICE Detention Hits Record 73,000+ as Surveillance Infrastructure Expands
ICE detention population has increased over 75% in one year to a record 73,000+, with ICE arrests doubling under the current administration. The ELITE app now integrates DHS systems with other agencies, including Medicaid records for home addresses. The Brennan Center characterizes the infrastructure as a 'deportation industrial complex' with 56,392 removals in FY2026 through mid-March.
Analysis
ICE detained population has held at 73,000+ across three consecutive INTSUMs, suggesting the system is at capacity. Prior INTSUM tracked the ELITE surveillance app expansion, which continues to draw court scrutiny.
