Iranian Missile Barrage Strikes Central Israel Residential Areas with Cluster Munitions

Iran launched one of its largest missile barrages in weeks against central Israel, injuring at least 14 and damaging residential areas across several cities. A ballistic missile struck near a drone factory in Petah Tikva on April 2, creating a large crater near a school. Cluster munition warheads hit residential neighborhoods in what the Arms Control Association called deliberate targeting of populated areas. Three people were wounded in Petah Tikva and Mazkeret Batya on April 3. Since February 28, Iranian strikes on Israel have killed nine civilians in Beit Shemesh alone.

Analysis
The use of cluster munitions against Israeli residential neighborhoods marks a deliberate escalation in targeting doctrine. Cluster munitions create persistent hazards in urban areas and their employment against civilian populations could trigger war crimes investigations. The strikes demonstrate that despite five weeks of air operations, Iran retains the capacity for sustained retaliatory volleys against Israeli cities.
