Scientists 3D Print Cemented Carbide—One of Earth's Hardest Materials—Reducing Waste and Cost
Researchers developed a method to additively manufacture cemented carbides using hot-wire laser irradiation, achieving hardness above 1,400 HV while avoiding defects or material breakdown. The technique reduces both material waste and production costs compared to traditional subtractive manufacturing of these ultra-hard materials used in cutting tools, mining equipment, and wear-resistant components.
