Second Projectile Strikes Bushehr Nuclear Plant Premises, IAEA Warns of Reddest Line

A projectile struck the premises of Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on March 24 at approximately 21:08 local time, the second such incident in eight days. The IAEA confirmed a structure 350 meters from the operating reactor was hit and destroyed in the first strike on March 17. IAEA Director General Grossi called the attacks a violation of all seven nuclear safety pillars during armed conflict and warned they risk crossing the reddest line of nuclear safety. Iranian authorities reported no reactor damage or staff injuries. Approximately 480 Russian Rosatom personnel remain on site with evacuation preparations underway.

Analysis
Two strikes on the only operational nuclear power plant in the Middle East within eight days represent a deliberate escalation pattern. The 350-meter miss distance from a functioning reactor containing Russian fuel assemblies creates a radiological leverage point that neither side can control. IAEA invoking the reddest line language is unprecedented since Zaporizhzhia.
