Russia Bans Gasoline Exports from April 1 Through July as Global Fuel Prices Surge

Russian Deputy PM Alexander Novak ordered the Energy Ministry to prepare legislation banning gasoline exports from April 1 through July 31. Russia exported nearly 5 million metric tons (117,000 bpd) of gasoline last year. Novak cited turmoil in the global oil products market caused by the Middle East crisis as the driver, aiming to stabilize domestic prices. The ban compounds the supply disruption from Ukrainian drone strikes on Baltic export infrastructure, further tightening global refined product markets already stressed by the Hormuz closure.

Analysis
Russia's export ban compounds Ukrainian drone damage to Baltic infrastructure, creating a dual supply shock. The ban runs through July, covering the European summer driving season. Combined with the Hormuz closure, this removes roughly 120,000 bpd of Russian gasoline from an already tight global refined product market.
