Israel Kills IRGC Navy Commander Tangsiri in Bandar Abbas Strike

Israel confirmed it killed IRGC Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri in a strike at Bandar Abbas at 0300 local time, eliminating the officer directly responsible for the Strait of Hormuz closure. The strike also killed IRGC Navy intelligence chief Behnam Rezaei. Defense Minister Katz vowed to hunt down IRGC commanders "one by one." Iran has not confirmed the deaths. Tangsiri commanded all IRGC naval forces including fast-attack boats, mines, and anti-ship missile batteries controlling the strait.

Analysis
Tangsiri was the operational architect of the Hormuz closure. His elimination decapitates IRGC naval command at the point most relevant to the strait reopening; the prior digest noted Hormuz as the single greatest economic lever in the conflict. Whether Iran can rapidly reconstitute command authority over fast-attack boats and mine-laying operations is the immediate operational question. Israel's vow to hunt IRGC commanders one by one echoes the Qassem Soleimani doctrine of targeted decapitation.
