Ukraine Strikes Russian Defense Plant Producing Missile Components

BLUFRepeated strikes on the Azov plant since July signal Ukraine is methodically attacking a verified chokepoint in Russia's precision-munitions supply chain that Western sanctions failed to close.

Ukraine's General Staff said forces struck the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in Russia's Rostov Oblast overnight Friday, causing a fire at the foundry and damaging equipment in five production buildings 1. Ukraine's Security Service said its Alpha Special Operations Center struck the plant jointly with the Ukrainian Navy using Neptune cruise missiles and Ruta, Palianytsia, and Bars drone missiles, damaging optical, foundry, and circuit-board production areas 234. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack, saying the plant supplies Russian forces with components for missiles and artillery as well as a Pantsir-S2 air defense system. Kyiv Post reported the SBU separately said it struck an actual Pantsir-S2 system in the region to suppress local air defenses 23. The plant, part of Russia's Tactical Missiles Corporation, produces optoelectronic equipment and electronics for artillery, missile, and anti-tank systems and has been under Western sanctions since 2022 124.
