The Linux Foundation announced the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), anchored by Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP), Block's goose agent framework, and OpenAI's AGENTS.md specification. MCP has become the de facto standard with 10,000+ published servers. However, a counter-trend is emerging: Perplexity's CTO announced the company is abandoning MCP for traditional APIs, citing 'staggering token consumption, authentication friction, and reduced agent autonomy.'
