EU Prepares More Cautious Roadmap for Ukraine Without Concrete Accession Deadlines
Politico, citing a European Commission document it obtained, reported that the roadmap sets targets for provisional conclusion of negotiations in seven of 35 policy areas for Ukraine in 2027 and specifies no accession date
The roadmap shifts the accession decision from Brussels to the member states and gives Kyiv no date to plan around. Seven of 35 areas for provisional closure in 2027, against more than 20 for Moldova, make decoupling the two files a live option for the Council. Kyiv must show rule-of-law results in the first half of 2027, so anti-corruption bodies such as NABU become the test of the schedule. Clusters 4 and 5 stay blocked until the Accession Conference acts, and the roadmap names no way past a single member-state veto. The missing dates may reflect Commission practice toward all frontrunners except Montenegro, not a downgrade, and the "living document" wording leaves room for acceleration. Confidence is low: all four outlets relay one Politico report on a Commission document, with no independent confirmation.
