Medusa Ransomware Claims Mississippi's Only Level I Trauma Center; 9-Day Outage
The Medusa ransomware group claimed responsibility for a February attack on the University of Mississippi Medical Center -- the state's sole Level I trauma center, only children's hospital, and only organ transplant program. The facility went offline for nine days. Attackers demanded $800,000 and threatened data release by March 20. Medusa is assessed as a Russia-based RaaS operation.
