Xu Chunying Indictment Reveals Systematic PRC Infiltration of Taiwan's Opposition Parties
Taiwanese prosecutors identified Xu Chunying's PRC intelligence handlers as Yang Wentao of the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs and Sun Xian of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang in Shanghai. Xu monitored Chinese immigrants in Taiwan under handler direction, was offered a legislator-at-large position by the Taiwan People's Party in 2023, and when she declined, her handler attempted to place another PRC-born spouse in the role. The case exposed a systematic approach to embedding intelligence assets in Taiwan's political parties through cross-strait marriage networks.
