Fifty-Ship Global Sumud Flotilla Sets Sail From Turkey for Gaza in Third Attempt to Break Israeli Blockade

Approximately 50 ships departed Marmaris, Turkey on May 14 as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and activists attempting to break the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza. The convoy will be joined in international waters by Freedom Flotilla Coalition vessels, making this the third flotilla initiative in a year. The mission comes weeks after Israeli forces intercepted a previous convoy near Crete on April 30, detaining approximately 175 activists.
