Ukraine Reports 970 Russian Casualties March 23; Massive Drone Swarm Strikes Saratov and Engels Deep Inside Russia

Ukraine's General Staff reported 970 Russian troops killed or wounded on March 23, with cumulative losses approaching 1,289,000 since February 2022. Nearly 300 Ukrainian drones struck targets overnight in Saratov and Samara Oblasts, hitting the Saratov oil refinery and areas near the Engels-2 strategic bomber airfield. Three-quarters of all Russian battlefield casualties are now drone-inflicted. Classified Kremlin assessments obtained by Ukrainian intelligence put actual Russian casualties at 1,315,000 — higher than official Ukrainian counts. Russia is losing approximately 40,000 troops monthly since November while recruiting only 35,000, creating an unsustainable attrition imbalance.
