Nepal's Former PM Oli Arrested Over Deaths During 2025 Gen Z Protests

Nepal's former prime minister K.P. Sharma Oli was arrested along with his home minister Ramesh Lekhak one day after rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah was sworn in as PM. A government panel investigating violence during September 2025 Gen Z anti-corruption protests found Oli negligent in failing to prevent 76 deaths over two days of unrest, including at least 19 protesters killed by security forces on the first day. The commission recommended up to 10 years imprisonment for those responsible.
