Google Moves Post-Quantum Cryptography Deadline to 2029

Google set a 2029 target for completing its migration to post-quantum cryptography (PQC), six years ahead of NIST's 2035 recommendation. The accelerated timeline responds to rapid advances in quantum hardware, improved error correction, and revised factoring estimates that bring "Q-Day" closer than previously expected. Google flagged two immediate priorities: defending against store-now-decrypt-later harvesting attacks and transitioning digital signatures before a cryptographically relevant quantum computer (CRQC) emerges. Android 17 will integrate PQC digital signature protection using ML-DSA, building on existing PQC support in Chrome and Google Cloud.
