Japan Establishes Unified Maritime Intelligence Command and Ground Intelligence Unit in Major JSDF Restructuring

Japan completed a major restructuring of its Self-Defense Forces that included establishing a new Maritime Intelligence Command in Tokyo to unify previously dispersed intelligence, oceanographic, cyber, and electronic warfare functions. The Ground Self-Defense Force simultaneously created a dedicated intelligence operations unit for information warfare. The reorganization integrates satellite, cyber, signals, and human intelligence capabilities under consolidated command structures, mirroring the intelligence fusion approach adopted by allied services responding to the same Indo-Pacific threat environment.
