NGO Report: Millions in Sudan Surviving on One Meal a Day as War-Driven Famine Spreads

A joint report by Action Against Hunger, CARE, IRC, Mercy Corps, and the Norwegian Refugee Council found that 28.9 million Sudanese, 61.7% of the population, face acute food insecurity, with millions in North Darfur and South Kordofan reduced to one meal per day. Many families resort to eating leaves and animal feed. Famine conditions are confirmed in al-Fashir and Kadugli, with thresholds exceeded in Um Baru and Kernoi. The war has displaced 12 million people, making it the largest displacement crisis globally.
