Explosives Found Near Serbia-Hungary Gas Pipeline Days Before Hungarian Election

Serbian authorities discovered two backpacks containing 4 kilograms of plastic explosive with detonators near the TurkStream gas pipeline in northern Serbia on April 5, a few hundred meters from the pipeline that carries Russian gas to Serbia and Hungary. The discovery comes a week before Hungary's April 12 parliamentary elections. Hungary's FM Szijjarto suggested Ukrainian involvement, while Serbia's military intelligence director stated flatly that "it is not true that Ukrainians tried to organize this sabotage" and noted the explosives bore US manufacturer markings. Kyiv denied involvement and suggested a Russian false-flag operation.

Analysis
Competing attribution narratives from Hungary (blaming Ukraine), Serbia's VBA (denying Ukrainian involvement), and Ukraine (suggesting Russian false flag) make this a textbook information warfare event one week before Hungary's April 12 election. The pipeline carries Russian gas; its disruption would hurt Hungary more than help Ukraine, complicating the Ukrainian attribution theory.
