Pakistan Confirms Active Backchannel Mediation Between US and Iran

Pakistan Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Dar confirmed Islamabad is facilitating indirect communications between Washington and Tehran, through which the US 15-point proposal was delivered. Pakistan offered to host direct US-Iran talks, coordinating with Turkey and Egypt in a multi-country mediation effort. The backchannel has already yielded results, including Trump's initial pause on energy strikes. Iran has rejected the proposal but maintains the diplomatic channel through Pakistan. Foreign Policy described Pakistan as potentially "redefining middle power agency" through its mediator role.

Analysis
Pakistan's unique position, a nuclear-armed Muslim-majority state with land border to Iran, longstanding US alliance, and intelligence relationship with Tehran, makes it the only credible backchannel actor. The coordination with Turkey and Egypt creates a Muslim-majority mediation bloc that gives Iran diplomatic cover to negotiate without appearing to submit to Western pressure.
