Breach Exposes Sensitive LAPD Files Stored in Los Angeles City Attorney System

Hackers from the World Leaks extortion gang breached a third-party discovery transfer system used by the Los Angeles City Attorney's office, exfiltrating 7.7 terabytes of data including 337,000 files of unredacted LAPD personnel records, Internal Affairs investigations, and sensitive witness information. The March 20 breach exposed settled civil litigation discovery and criminal complaints. Mayor Bass has been briefed. The city attorney's office engaged external forensic support.

Analysis
The 7.7TB exfiltration from a third-party discovery system exposes a systemic vulnerability in municipal legal infrastructure: litigation discovery systems hold some of the most sensitive data in city government (IA files, witness identities, officer personnel records) but receive far less security attention than primary law enforcement databases.
