G3 Geomagnetic Storm Produces Worldwide Aurora Displays Visible From New York and London

A strong G3-class geomagnetic storm driven by coronal mass ejections pushed the Kp index to 7 during the early hours of March 21, producing vivid auroral displays visible from New York, London, and northern France — far south of the aurora's typical range. The storm has since eased to G1-G2 levels with aurora still possible at higher latitudes. NOAA forecasts conditions easing by March 24. The event adds to heightened solar activity during Solar Cycle 25 maximum.
