France Detains EU Parliamentarian Rima Hassan on Terrorism Apology Charges Over Social Media Post
French police detained European Parliament member Rima Hassan on suspicion of apology for terrorism over a social media post referencing a 1972 attack on Israel's Ben Gurion Airport. Hassan, born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria, called the prosecution political harassment for her criticism of Israel. The case was initiated after far-right politician Matthias Renault reported the post. Hassan was released and faces trial in July. The detention drew condemnation from Palestine solidarity organizations and free speech advocates.
