Georgia Town Fights Back Against ICE's Planned 500,000 Sq Ft Detention Warehouse

A half-million square foot commercial property in Georgia is slated for conversion into an ICE 'regional processing facility' where detainees could be held up to a week before transfer. Local residents and officials are pushing back against the plan, which is part of DHS's broader effort to expand detention capacity for what the administration calls the largest deportation operation in American history. ICE detention facility count has surged 91% since January 2025.
