Rivian and Uber Partner to Deploy 10,000 Autonomous R2 Robotaxis Starting 2028

Rivian Automotive and Uber announced a partnership to deploy 10,000 fully autonomous R2 robotaxis, with initial launches in San Francisco and Miami by 2028 and expansion to 25 cities by 2031. The deal positions Rivian's consumer EV platform as a commercial fleet vehicle and gives Uber a major autonomous capacity outside its existing Waymo partnership, intensifying the three-way race between Waymo, Tesla, and the Rivian-Uber alliance.
