Russia Expands Long-Range Strike Drone Network With 10 New Launch Bases and 59 Rails for Geran-4/5 Variants

BLUFExpanded launch infrastructure along Russia's western borders is very unlikely to produce strikes on Polish or Baltic territory before mid-November, serving instead to deepen drone saturation pressure against Ukrainian air defenses.

An investigation by The Telegraph, based on satellite imagery, leaked documents, and analysis by drone-intelligence firm DroneSec, identified 10 Russian sites with newly built or expanded drone-launch infrastructure along the Ukrainian and Belarusian borders, totaling 59 launch rails, with roughly 20 assessed as extended to accommodate newer Geran-4/5 variants 12. Open-source tracking data showed seven of the 10 sites had already been used in strikes on Ukraine, and one site was found to have storage capacity for more than 1,000 drones 12. DroneSec CEO Mike Monnik told The Telegraph the network expansion increases the volume of drones Russia can launch while incorporating harder-to-intercept designs 34. The Telegraph reported the newer drones' estimated 620-mile range would theoretically place Warsaw and the Baltic states within reach, though it found no indication Russia is preparing strikes on Polish territory 23.

Analysis
The expansion primarily deepens Russia's capacity to saturate Ukrainian air defenses with jet-powered variants rather than signal imminent action against NATO members. Extended rails built for Geran-4/5 and storage exceeding 1,000 drones at a single site indicate a mass-attack layer designed for the existing war footing, not a redirect toward Polish or Baltic targets. Russia very unlikely will conduct a confirmed strike on Polish or Baltic territory using these extended-range drones before November 16. Moderate confidence reflects consistent satellite-imagery analysis across reporting but no direct indicator of intent to employ the capability against NATO territory.
