UK Expands Sanctions to Cover 90 Percent of Russian Oil Output and 600 Shadow Fleet Vessels
Britain announced 38 new Russia-related designations on Thursday, including two Russian oil producers and 12 more tankers, according to UPI
With more than 90 percent of Russian production capacity already designated, London has exhausted what oil-producer listings can add, so pressure must shift to intermediaries. That explains the Kyrgyz and Canadian-registered financial entities and the A7-linked platforms, and it aligns British targeting with recent U.S. Treasury action against A7. Moscow can re-flag and rebadge tankers faster than designations accumulate, so the 12 added vessels may not visibly dent export volumes. The package may also be mainly political signaling, timed to Miliband's Kyiv visit and the winter aid announcement. Sourcing is thin: the Foreign Office release is the only primary account, and every outlet repeats its figures unverified.
