DHS Units to Renew Contract with Cellebrite Mobile Device Data Extractor

Forecast documents released last week, as reported by FedScoop, show ICE and Homeland Security Investigations plan to award Cellebrite a five-year IDIQ contract with a $100 million ceiling later this year. The Israeli digital forensics firm also received FedRAMP High Authorization last week after an 18-month process, with the Department of Justice as the sponsoring agency. In March, Cellebrite acquired SCG Canada, adding drone forensics tools capable of unlocking more than 80 common UAV models and extracting flight logs, video files, and cell-tower connection data. Privacy advocates at EPIC and EFF told FedScoop the tools are "extremely invasive" and cited oversight gaps at ICE, including the potential use of the border search exception to expand warrantless mobile device searches into major coastal cities.
