SBU Dismantles 14-Member GRU Spy Ring Targeting F-16 and Mirage 2000 Airfields in Ukraine

BLUFGRU's use of an aviation-enthusiast Telegram channel as a self-recruiting pipeline means dismantling one network leaves the underlying recruitment model intact and readily replicable near remaining Western-jet operating bases.

The SBU said its military counterintelligence unit dismantled a 14-member Russian GRU agent network that gathered imagery and location data on Ukraine's F-16 and Mirage 2000 fighters, according to the agency's own announcement 12. The SBU said Russian intelligence first recruited a Lviv resident who ran an aviation-focused Telegram channel, who then enlisted 13 subscribers with photography equipment living near Defense Forces airbases 2.
