Potomac TRACON Evacuated Again, Grounding All DC-Area Flights for Second Time in Two Weeks

The Potomac TRACON radar facility managing Washington DC airspace was evacuated to ATC Zero for the second time in two weeks after an overheated battery in an IT cabinet produced a strong odor. The FAA implemented ground stops for Reagan National, Dulles, BWI, Charlottesville, and Richmond airports before lifting restrictions approximately 40 minutes later. A similar evacuation on March 13 was caused by faulty equipment being serviced by a contractor.
