IAEA Issues Emergency Warning After Strikes Land 75 Meters from Bushehr Nuclear Plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency issued an urgent warning on April 6 confirming that recent airstrikes hit dangerously close to Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, with one strike landing approximately 75 meters from the facility's perimeter fence. The IAEA has repeatedly called for restraint around nuclear facilities during the 38-day conflict. The strikes on the Bushehr region also targeted nearby petrochemical infrastructure at the South Pars complex in Asaluyeh, hitting the Jam and Damavand facilities responsible for roughly half of Iran's petrochemical output.

Analysis
A 75-meter miss distance from an active nuclear power plant is within the blast fragmentation radius of most precision-guided munitions. Whether accidental or deliberate probing, strikes this close to Bushehr create a radiological risk that the IAEA cannot mitigate through monitoring alone. Iran's FM previously warned of fallout consequences; this proximity gives that rhetoric operational backing.
