Ukraine hits Rosneft Tuapse oil port for second time in five days, kills one and triggers 7 sq-km Black Sea spill

Ukrainian drones struck the Rosneft-owned Tuapse port and refinery in Krasnodar Krai during a 20 April overnight attack, killing at least one person, igniting multiple fires at the terminal, and forcing Russia to redirect tankers to alternate ports, according to Ukrainska Pravda and Moscow Times reporting. Unmanned Systems Forces commander Robert Brovdi confirmed the joint USF-SOF-HUR operation. Krasnodar authorities reported an oil spill in the Black Sea that independent estimates put at roughly 7 square kilometers. The terminal, which handles 12 million tons of naphtha, fuel oil, and diesel annually, had been hit four days earlier on 16 April.

Analysis
The two strikes confirm a strategy shift from demonstration to sustained denial of Rosneft's Black Sea export capacity, corroborated across four outlets with Krasnodar authority readouts and imagery, while the 7 sq-km spill adds an environmental pressure track Moscow cannot conceal or easily attribute to internal causes. At current Brent levels, each day of Tuapse downtime costs Rosneft low-hundreds of millions in forgone revenue, and Kyiv almost certainly calibrates strike cadence to maximize that drain against thin Russian air defense coverage in the area. A third strike within 14 days is probable if repair activity becomes visible; retaliation, when it comes, will likely target Ukrainian gas infrastructure rather than a symmetric port attack.
