Zelensky Set to Meet Trump at White House as MAGA Voices Shift on Ukraine

BLUFTuesday's White House session very likely produces substantive talks on air defenses and a negotiating framework, though Zelensky's real test is whether shifting MAGA sentiment translates into durable concessions.

President Trump will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Tuesday, a White House official confirmed independently to ABC News, The Defense Post, and Axios 123. Zelensky will be in Washington for Sen. Lindsey Graham's funeral, according to a Ukrainian official cited by ABC News 1. Graham, a longtime Ukraine supporter in Congress, died earlier this month after visiting Kyiv shortly before his death 12. The meeting follows Trump and Zelensky's talks at the NATO summit in Turkey earlier this month on air defenses and diplomacy to end the war 3, and Zelensky said this week he had spoken with Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about reviving stalled negotiations 2. Separately, Trump ally Laura Loomer met Zelensky in Kyiv last week and said she had been "bamboozled by Russian propaganda" after years opposing US support for Ukraine, a shift Trump called "Very good!!!" in a Truth Social repost 23.

Analysis
Trump and Zelensky meet Tuesday against a backdrop of softening MAGA rhetoric on Ukraine, but the outcome hinges on whether Witkoff and Kushner convert renewed contact with Zelensky into a negotiating framework rather than a photo opportunity tied to Graham's funeral. Given Zelensky's active outreach to both envoys and Trump's public warmth toward Loomer's reversal, the two sides very likely hold substantive talks on air defenses and a negotiating track, though no session is scheduled to produce a signed agreement. Confidence is moderate, reflecting that three independently reporting outlets confirmed the same White House official, indicating broad corroboration, but none offers visibility into what concessions either side is prepared to offer. If the talks prove substantive, US officials calibrate near-term security-assistance and air-defense commitments to a revived track; if the meeting stays symbolic, Kyiv's planners cannot yet bank on any shift in US backing.
