Artemis II Crew Completes Historic Lunar Flyby, Sets Distance Record and Begins Return to Earth
The four-person Artemis II crew completed humanity's first crewed lunar flyby since Apollo 17 in 1972, passing within 4,067 miles of the Moon's surface on April 6 and setting a human distance record of 252,756 miles from Earth. Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen photographed the far side, witnessed a solar eclipse from behind the Moon, and began their return trajectory on Flight Day 7.
