TSA Screener Resignations Hit 480 as DHS Approaches $1 Billion in Unpaid Wages by Friday
More than 480 TSA airport screeners have resigned since the DHS funding lapse began February 14, with the agency on track to surpass $1 billion in cumulative missed paychecks by March 27. TSA callout rates at JFK, Atlanta, and Houston remain between 25-38%, forcing lane consolidations and threatening small airport closures. Acting TSA Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill testified to the House Homeland Security Committee that remaining screeners are stretched thin across all shifts. The DHS shutdown has now entered its 41st day with no resolution as congressional negotiations remain stalled.
