Colombian Military C-130 Crashes After Takeoff Killing 66 Service Members; US-Donated Aircraft

A Colombian Air Force C-130H Hercules with 125 personnel crashed 1.5km after takeoff from Puerto Leguizamo in the Amazonian Putumayo province, killing 66 and injuring 57. The dead include 58 Army, 6 Air Force, and 2 National Police. The aircraft, originally donated by the US Air Force in 2020, hit the ground and detonated onboard ammunition. Defense Minister Sanchez said there was no indication of 'attack by illegal actors.' The aircraft model first entered service in 1965.
