Russia Announces Full Partnership With Afghan Taliban and Encourages Regional Cooperation With Kabul

Sergei Shoigu, Russia's Security Council Secretary, declared at the SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan on May 14 that Moscow is building a "full-fledged partnership" with Afghanistan's Taliban spanning security, trade, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation, Reuters and state-run TASS reported. Shoigu urged SCO member states to expand contacts with Kabul and proposed reviving the organization's Afghanistan contact group.
