Czech Government Denies Preparing 'Foreign Agents' Law but Will Create NGO Subsidy Registry
Justice Minister Tejc (ANO) stated the government is not preparing legislation targeting NGOs and nonprofits with foreign funding, countering fears raised during the 200,000-strong Letna protests. However, authorities committed to establishing a public registry documenting subsidies received by nonprofits, a compromise between coalition demands and civil society concerns. The denial comes after protest organizer Minar warned Babis's government was 'dragging the country onto the path of Slovakia and Hungary,' citing the proposed NGO registration requirement as a key grievance.
