Church of England Installs First Female Archbishop of Canterbury in 1,400 Years

Sarah Mullally, 63, was enthroned as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, becoming the first woman to lead the Church of England since its founding. A former cancer nurse who became a priest at 40, Mullally was formally elected in January with the public ceremony held at Canterbury Cathedral on March 25. The Prince and Princess of Wales and PM Starmer attended. The Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans, representing conservative factions, has expressed opposition. Mullally leads both the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion of 85 million members.
