EU Parliament Votes to Require AI Transparency and Licensing for Copyrighted Content

The European Parliament voted on March 26 to adopt a report requiring generative AI companies to disclose training data and create a licensing market for copyrighted material. MEPs called on the European Commission to ensure copyrighted content used by AI is "fully transparent and fairly remunerated," with specific protections for press and news media. The vote coincides with the US AI Accountability Act passed earlier in March requiring bias audits for AI used in hiring, lending, healthcare, and criminal justice, ending years of voluntary self-regulation.
