Army Receives First Autonomous-Ready Black Hawk from DARPA Program
The US Army took delivery of the H-60Mx Black Hawk at Fort Eustis, Virginia — the first helicopter capable of piloted, remotely operated, or fully autonomous flight using Sikorsky's MATRIX autonomy software. The aircraft emerged from over a decade of DARPA's ALIAS program. It will undergo testing under the Army's SAFE program before potential fleet-wide deployment. Sikorsky separately introduced the S-70 UHawk, a fully unmanned Black Hawk variant built without a cockpit, in October 2025. The delivery signals Army Aviation's accelerating shift toward autonomous and optionally piloted rotorcraft.
