LA woman arrested at LAX on federal arms-trafficking charge over Iran-to-Sudan brokering including 55,000 bomb fuses

The Department of Justice arrested 44-year-old Shamim Mafi at Los Angeles International Airport on 18 April on charges she brokered drone, bomb, bomb-fuse, and ammunition sales between Iran and the Sudanese Armed Forces, according to a criminal complaint unsealed in the Central District of California. The complaint, originally dated 12 March, alleges Mafi, an Iranian national who obtained US lawful permanent resident status in 2016, operated a front company in Oman called Atlas International Business with an unnamed co-conspirator and brokered the sale of 55,000 bomb fuses to Sudan's Ministry of Defense as part of contracts including a roughly $70 million drone deal. She faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

Analysis
The sealed 12 March complaint date signals the FBI built this case on financial tracing and cooperator testimony well before the Iran war opened, almost certainly allowing Mafi to travel internationally under a controlled window on the Atlas International front. The 55,000 bomb-fuse quantity, new with the unsealed document and corroborated across Al Jazeera, CNN, and UPI, is enough to support SAF munitions production at current tempo for roughly three to six months, which likely accounts for RSF munitions shortages reported in January. A second-wave indictment naming the co-conspirator and an Iranian Defense Industries Organization handler is probable within 90 days.
