Former US Army Soldier Sentenced to 12 Months for Enabling North Korean IT Worker Fraud Scheme

Alexander Paul Travis, 35, a former Fort Gordon soldier, was sentenced to 12 months for enabling DPRK IT workers to infiltrate US companies. Travis allowed North Korean workers to use his identity on resumes and during vetting, opened bank accounts for salary payments, and installed remote-access software on laptops from eight employers. The scheme earned $1.28 million, most sent to IT workers overseas. Two co-conspirators received three years probation. The case highlights the ongoing DPRK IT worker infiltration campaign the FBI has tracked extensively.
