DHS Shutdown Threatens to Extend Through April 13 Recess; TSA Attrition Accelerating
If Congress fails to reach a DHS funding deal before leaving for two-week recess this week, the partial shutdown that began February 14 will extend past April 13. The workforce impact continues to deepen: 11% of scheduled TSA officers (over 3,200) missed work Monday, 458 have resigned since the shutdown began, and over 50,000 remaining officers continue working without pay. ICE agents have been deployed to 14 airports for crowd management. The personnel drain coincides with elevated homeland security threats during the Iran conflict, including Iran-aligned hacktivist targeting of critical infrastructure and documented Russian intelligence operations against US officials' communications.
