Zelensky Says Ukraine Aims to Produce 400 Interceptor Drones to Counter Growing Russian Jet-Powered Drone Threat
Zelensky told the Financial Times that Ukraine is testing five high-speed interceptor drone models against Russian jet-powered drones, and that one model could reach about 400 units produced by the end of October, as relayed by RBC-Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine and LIGA.net
Ukraine's defense against jet-powered Gerans will not improve materially before November, because engine supply, not airframe design, caps interceptor output. Only one of five models is slated for serial production, and about 400 units against Russian output of roughly 2,000 Geran-4 and Geran-5 drones monthly covers a small share of incoming jets. That leaves the 57% jet interception rate well short of the 85-90% achieved against conventional drones, a gap that persists into winter without new engine imports and budget funds. The Kyiv Independent is the sole primary report of the interview, so the 400 figure rests on Zelensky's word alone. The figure may be a signal to Western donors, overstating what testing can deliver by October's end.
