NSA Achieves 2,000-Person Workforce Reduction Target
NSA confirmed it met its goal to shed approximately 2,000 civilian positions, an 8% workforce cut. Reductions came through terminations, voluntary departures, and deferred resignation offers. Former NSA cyber director Rob Joyce warned the cuts 'threaten national security' by reducing capacity to counter adversary cyber operations during wartime.
Analysis
The 03/18 IC Brief tracked this at the 1,500-2,000 target range. Confirmation at the upper bound compounds the workforce degradation picture: NSA (-2,000), ODNI (-700), FBI (-300 natsec agents), with CIA's 1,200-person reduction still in implementation.
