Artemis II Crew Breaks Human Spaceflight Distance Record During Lunar Flyby

NASA's Artemis II crew surpassed the Apollo 13 record for the farthest distance from Earth traveled by humans, reaching 252,760 miles at 7:07 PM EDT on April 6, exceeding the 1970 record of 248,655 miles. Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen observed Earthrise during a communications blackout and viewed features of the lunar far side never before seen by human eyes. The crew also witnessed a total solar eclipse from the Orion spacecraft during the six-day mission.
