Hungary PM-elect Magyar commits to ICC Netanyahu warrant, halts Orban ICC withdrawal

Hungary's Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar publicly confirmed Monday his incoming government will comply with the ICC arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he enter Hungarian territory, per Haaretz and Al Jazeera. Magyar said Hungary will remain an ICC member and can halt predecessor Viktor Orban's withdrawal before formal exit takes effect. Magyar invited heads of state to Budapest for the 70th anniversary of the 1956 uprising in October including Netanyahu, but said a warrant enforcement would follow if Netanyahu came. Orban hosted Netanyahu last year and announced ICC withdrawal after.

Analysis
Corroborated by Haaretz reporting from inside Israel and a direct Magyar quote via Al Jazeera video, with Press TV's Iranian-state provenance noted but not load-bearing here, the commitment is almost certainly a structural piece of Magyar's EU political reset rather than a standalone gesture, and very likely to produce a formal halt to Orban's ICC withdrawal within the first hundred days of government. Netanyahu is very unlikely to enter Hungarian territory while the warrant stands, shifting the consequential question to whether Hungary's compliance posture sets a floor under Italy, Greece, and Cyprus; the October 1956-anniversary invitation is calculated theater designed to test whether Israel will publicly acknowledge the constraint rather than decline quietly. The rhetoric may instead prove coalition-contingent: Hungarian governments have a documented pattern of retreating on ICC positions when US pressure compounds, and Magyar's coalition has not yet been stress-tested on a directly contested foreign-policy commitment.
