Researchers Achieve 3D Printing of Cemented Carbides via Hot-Wire Laser Irradiation

Researchers demonstrated additive manufacturing of cemented carbides -- among the hardest industrial metals -- using hot-wire laser irradiation. The technique preserves hardness above 1400 HV while reducing material waste and production costs versus conventional methods. The breakthrough has direct defense and aerospace applications where tungsten carbide tooling is critical.
