Ukraine Air Force Reports Intercepting Over 8,000 Attack Drones and Missiles in October Including 143 New S8000 Banderol Cruise Missiles
Ukraine's Ministry of Defence, citing Air Force data published on November 4, stated air defences intercepted more than 8,000 drones and missiles in October, plus over 43,000 tactical-level UAVs
Russia's strike mix is shifting toward mass drones and cheap cruise missiles, with 143 S8000 Banderol interceptions a new volume for that category. Ballistic missiles remain the gap, since only 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 interceptions appear against thousands of drones and the ministry itself says it needs better counters. Kyiv has an incentive to publicize these figures before the November 10-11 Abu Dhabi talks and its air defense requests. The heavy drone totals may instead reflect decoys meant to exhaust interceptors, so the count overstates how much damaging strike capacity was blunted. Confidence is low: the Ministry of Defence is the sole primary source, the three outlets only repeat it, and there are no independent launch counts or Russian figures. The totals count interceptions, not launches, so no interception rate can be derived.
